The White Storks

For people visiting the Hostel and the beautiful area of Zerbolò, it is not rare to see and meet white storks: they fly low, hunt frogs or small insects in paddy fields and the green surrounding of the hostel.

These precious encounters are possible thanks to a program which aims to give them a place for reproduction, protection, and settling-in.

Since many years there is the will of some environmental associations to release couples of storks in the nature to help their restock.

This demanding and long term project ended positively and left as heritage for everybody the permanent community of white storks, a group of more than 25 animals nesting and breeding around the hostel. The area is full of voluminous nests and is open to visits; the stocks, engaged in taking care of the babies, can be admired along a didactic trail.

The Association in charge of the white stocks safeguard is called “A passo d’ali”.
